Fluxus et Refluxus: Behind the mirror

Distruktur (BR/DE)

3 x 16mm, 2x slide, live sounds | Brazil/Germany | Work in progress since 2006

Fluxus et Refluxus is a constant flow caused by an electric-maritime stream that crosses bodies, minds and spaces. The filmperformance presents multiple 16mm and slide projections accompanied by live soundtrack.

Distruktur is an artists duo formed in 2007 by Melissa Dullius and Gustavo Jahn when they moved together from South Brazil to Berlin. They started making films together in 1999, first on Super 8 and later on 16mm. After joining the collective LaborBerlin in 2007 they started applying handmade techniques on the making of their films. Beyond conceiving and producing moving images, they also appear as actors and musicians and act as lab technicians. Distruktur's body of work takes form as films, installations, film performances, photographs, text and graphic. Their work has been presented in festivals such as Berlinale, Mostra de SP, BAFICI, Torino Film Festival, New Horizons and Videobrasil, as well as in exhibitions at Berlinische Galerie, Paço das Artes in São Paulo, and Vilnius Contemporary Art Centre.

Gaëlle Rouard (FR)

2016, 16mm, b/w & color, 36min live expanded cinema performance

Inspired by O.W. himself being by W.S.

Knok Knok Knok
Awake Awake
Ring the alarum bell
Up, up and see.
Knok Knok Knok
Shake off this downy sleep : confusion now hath made his masterpiece,
and damned be him that first cries 'hold, enough'
Knok Knok
Who's there in the name of Beelzebub ?
Ring the bell !
-such a hideous trumpet-
Knok Knok - never at quiet
what are you ? Who's there in the other devil's name ?
Arm Arm and out !
As from your graves rise up
-and look on death itself-

Gaëlle Rouard has been making handmade films since the early 90′s. She is a long time member of the “102 rue d’Alembert”, a venue dedicated to the diffusion and creation of experimental music and film. She also ran “Atelier MTK” (a craft  film laboratory) for twelve years until 2006, in Grenoble, France. An alchemist specialising in the precipitation of silver on film, she has developed and is still exploring various methods of chemical processing on film, while experimenting with the possibilities of live multi-projection in both solo and collaborative forms. Gaelle also runs a variety of workshops, both in art schools and for individual teaching.

Refining the Senses

Atoosa Pour Hosseini (IE/IR)

8mm film projectors, light, sound, tools & objects

Refining the Senses is an uncanny sensory experience that places the viewer in a mysterious and contemplative liminal zone between different dimensions of life, death and memory that fluctuates between the personal and the general, the pictorial and the material. Combining found and original footage, she scratches, dyes and paints the film surface to highlight both the fragility and persistence of the image.

Atoosa Pour Hosseini is an Iranian/Irish artist-filmmaker and co. director of Experimental Film Society based in Dublin, Ireland. Her work, which is influenced by historical avant-garde cinema, explores questions about illusion, reality, and perception through the media of film, performance and installation. Her works have recently been presented at The Museum of the Moving Image, New York; Irish Film Institute (IFI), Dublin; 62nd Cork Film Festival; The National Cineteca of Mexico; LUFF, Switzerland; The Museum of Modern Art, Rio de Janeiro; and The Museum of Contemporary Art, Tehran.

Even Silence is Cause of Storm

Adriana Vila, Luis Macias (ESP)

Even Silence is cause of storm is a film performance by Luis Macías & Adriana Vila Guevara. A display of analog projection devices with 35mm slides, 16mm film (made with hand processing, photochemical experiments, and optical printing frame by frame) combined with sound created by Alfredo Costa Monteiro, from field recordings and electro-acoustic devices in a single performance of visual and sound experimentation. An exorbitant perceptual experience on the relation with nature: hypnotic subtle and violent.

Adriana Vila and Luis Macías are a duo of artists exploring film and its devices. Their expanded cinema performances using argentic/analog devises involve a high degree of improvisation, using structural composition and formal explorations, involving elements as light intensity, sonic vibrations, instability and phantasmagoria. They have been performing together since 2010, collaborating with experimental musicians, showing their work in alternative spaces and renowned festivals and art centers in the U.S, Europe and Latin America.
