Experimental film festival Process is taking place on 22nd to 25th March 2018 in Riga, Latvia. The festival is dedicated to experimental analog cinema, celebrating the physical film medium in all its personal, adventurous and uncompromising forms. The first of a kind in the Baltics, for the second time Process will provide four days of film screenings, expanded cinema performances, lectures, discussions, and other events.

This year the festival will focus on alternative forms of co-existing, looking for ways to establish little independent territories outside of the accustomed patterns of action and thought.

We are open for submissions in three non-competitive programs:

Fear

Selected by Rouzbeh Rashidi (Experimental Film Society, IR/IE)

Films dealing with the state of fear in any imaginable sense – scary films, fearless films, uncanny, weird or hellishly funny – films that disrupt what is known and turn the strange, dark side of the world’s face towards us.

Resistance

Selected by Erik Martinson (Film curator, CA/LV)

Films working as a means of investigation or an argument, questioning, resisting and perhaps subverting the stated ways of how society – or cinema, for that matter – can function.

Introspection

Selected by Lāsma Bērtule (Baltic Analog Lab, LV)

Films showing what cannot be neither seen nor told – the secrets laying deep inside of  a mind or of the film’s material body, affecting the visible things from beneath.

We ONLY (!) welcome the submission of experimental short films where the use of analog film has been part of the filmmaking process. Films with available analog copies will be prefered during selection process.

Filmmakers and artists are welcome to submit until the deadline of the 21st February 2018.
